AI DEMOCRACY explores the tension between artificial intelligence and democratic processes. Political bots, deepfakes, AI election campaigns – as powerful tools of manipulation and propaganda, AIs seem omnipresent. But could it be different? Could AI also enable new forms of participation and decision-making?

In its new performance, Interrobang draws on the roots of democracy: the Greek polis. Ancient procedures such as ostracism, lotocracy and direct voting are revived by AI systems and brought to the stage. There, two performers and a creative coder meet. The audience can help determine the political agenda of the evening by raising their hands, speaking up or using their smartphones.

But are the decisions made with its help really well-founded and transparent? Where do we trust the seemingly neutral super-algorithms, where do we trust the human performers, and when do we trust ourselves as a collective? The audience, as a micro-society, explores and experiences AI politics in real time.
